In Japan 'sanpo' means stroll. In Melbourne Sanpo Disco means a musical mix series and an alias that DJ Rowan Mason performs under. So far the series has presented mixes from the likes of Italian ambient producer Gigi Masin best known for his 1986 album Wind, Jonny Nash who is part of Tokyo’s Discossession collective and a staple member of ESP Institute and Hyperborea, Melbourne based synthesist James Tom's solo project.

Mason says that the series presents mixes across genres with an emphasis on selection and music that might not ordinarily be played in a dance context. The original starting point being that the mixes would compliment transit and walking. Think of them as the perfect soundtrack for an early morning or late night stroll in Shimokitazawa or St Kilda.

Sanpo Disco also co-hosts Endless Sunset a night at Melbourne’s Hugs and Kisses. Inspired by 'Weather Project' Olafur Eliasson’s circular disc installation created with hundreds of monochromatic lamps radiating yellow light, it's an endless sunset inside a club.

The next Endless Sunset features Ruf Dug, the mastermind behind the dope Ruf Kutz label.

So put on a comfortable pair of Rockports and download Ruf’s Sanpo Disco mix that includes some choice and chilled cuts from Chris Coco, Haruomi Hosono and Seahawks.
