Stream Wireheads’ ‘Big Issues’

The Adelaide six-piece travelled to Olympia, Washington to record their second album with DIY pioneer Calvin Johnson at his Dub Narcotic Studio.

Americans call it the ‘sophomore album’. Often ‘dreaded’. Not many bands travel across the other side of the world to record their second album with one of their musical heroes. But in November 2014 Adelaide six-piece Wireheads made the trip to Olympia, Washington to record the follow up to their debut The Late Great Wireheads with Calvin Johnson using the DIY pioneers analogue gear at Dub Narcotic Studio.

The result is Big Issues and it will be released on Brisbane label Tenth Court tomorrow. You can stream it below.

When we recently chatted, band frontman Dom Trimnboli said that some of the highlights of hanging out at Dub Narcotic was drinking Rainier beer and Calvin’s vibrochamp.

There are many highlights on Big Issues including “Boys Home”, the shouty “Crooked Cults” and “Glass Jaw” with it’s matter-of-fact line, “People like you get hit by buses everyday”.

We asked Dom to come up with his top three favourite ‘second’ albums:

Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II
This is probably my favourite album in the world. Real original stuff. Absolutely no fucks were given.

Townes Van Zandt - Our Mother The Mountain
Song writing 101.

T-Rex - Electric Warrior
It's kind of their sixth album but their second after they changed their name from Tyrannosaurus Rex. It's just so damn sexy.

‘Big Issues’ is available August 7 through Tenth Court records.
