S U R F I N G Bring Back the Multiple-Edit Single with 'Hit the Spot'

The Melbourne duo have released four equally awesome versions of the same song.

Remember when singles contained three or four different versions of the same song?

Melbourne band S U R F I N G’s latest release, “Hit the Spot” comes in precisely this bizarre and unique form. The OG version of the song is an infectious little Aussie pop gem that features a slow wooze perfect for hangovers or pre-club hangs. It's as smooth as warm butter but with a deadly chorus.

It was wrongly assumed that the vocals on S U R F I N G’s debut Deep Fantasy were sampled and while their sound is similar to the vaporwave style - all repetition and blissed-out lo-fi funk – S U R F I N G would rather you just call their music “electronic”.

Hit the Spot is available now as a free download and serves as an exciting warm-up to the duo’s forthcoming release.

Noisey: Why’d you release the EP in such a format?
Penny: I loved the idea of giving people a package of songs rather than just throwing up a single mp3. I used to love getting instrumentals and weird remixes on a CD single. It’s a fun format and something we’d do again for sure.

What have you been doing in the four years since Deep Fantasy?
Lee: We almost did have a follow-up to Deep Fantasy but we lost all that work due to unforeseen circumstances and that sort of sapped our energy for a little bit. We both pursued other creative avenues for a while too: Penny was running the Airlines Tape label and doing some fashion and video work. I put out some stuff as HAWAII94 and got into mixing and stuff for other artists.
