Listen to the Living Eyes’ Banging New Single “Put It Back”

Hey Geelong, why don’t you just make these guys your mayors already?

The Living Eyes own the Geelong music scene. If the city wants to be known as a true rock town they need to make the four piece mayors rather than this chumpy former paparazzo.

But you get the feeling that the Living Eyes don’t care for politics as much they do sweaty and stinky rock and roll.

They are set to release Living Large, the follow up to their ace debut and if you claim to be a true fan of punching rock you will soon own it. Recorded at Owen Penglis’ new fancy sounding Goliath Professional Recording Studio (which I bet is still littered with empty beer bottles, badges and garage rock album cover sleeves), the album is a refreshing take on a tired, worn out and haggard musical genre.

The band have given us a sneak peak of the first track “Put It Back” and we spoke to guitarist Billy Gardener who also does time in Ausmuteants and Wet Blankets.

Noisey: Adjectives like ‘delinquent’, ‘bratty’ and ‘obnoxious’ are over used when describing this type of garage punk. I’ve met all of you guys you and you all seem very polite, sensitive and well adjusted gentlemen. Are you letting the genre down?
Billy Gardener: Yeah, you’re right. They are definitely over used. It’s like how Pebbles and Back From the Grave records all seem to say “primitive” or “fuzz”. I guess that’s just marketing. We are letting the genre down in that regard but that’s ok because we’re well adjusted gentlemen!

Having said that the photo above looks like you sleep rough in a park.
That’s us living up to the ‘bratty’ term. It’s from our last trip to Sydney, in a big park near the touristy spot Circular Quay. As you can see, it’s a glorious day and we are drinking beers in the park. My confused facial expression doesn’t really show it but we were stoked!

I like that shift at the 40-second mark in the song. Whose idea was that?
That was mine. It’s just a little solo intro I guess. The bang around the end is Owen’s secret explosion sound. I’ve stolen it for about ten different songs (and counting).

There’s a track on the new album called “Low Life” I take it’s not about the Sydney band?
Nah I don’t know Low Life personally. I like the record though! I made that name ages ago before the Low Life LP was out and I had heard of, but not heard Low Life.

'Living Large' is available March 6 through Remote Control.
