Listen to Sewers Blasted Snarl on 'Night Duty'

The Brisbane band place an emphasis on nuisance over nuance.

It’s been a while since we’ve come across a band whose name is as fitting as Sewers. Five gentlemen from Brisbane, Queensland who specialise in a musical style that is best likened to rolling around on damp carpet. And we say this as big supporters of any band who plumb the depths of obnoxious noise. Sewers is the shit!

“Night Duty” taken from their forthcoming album Weight contains the off tap snarl of the Fall with the heavy and fatty cartilage of a Killdozer song.

It’s all about the nuisance rather than the nuance with these guys.

The band are about to head to the US where they will play with and to likeminded musical miscreants.

We caught up with vocalist Shan Corrigan to find out more.

Noisey: Night duty. For what? 7-11?
Shan Corrigan: Yeah we’re pretty partial to a late night creamer (Maxibon, Gaytime is my preference) and a Four and Twenty pie. However, I think I was more referring to an Australian Travis Bickle who is sick and tired of the filth on the streets and the carbon tax. It’s high time someone cleaned that shit up, stop the politicians/Muppets from dumping fluoride into our water and if you don’t love it, leave! The band now has a second guitarist that frees you up to do whatever you please. What is that exactly?
I was never real good at patting my head and rubbing my belly. However, now I only have one task and can do a half decent job of it. But I guess what you want is a list of rock n roll stage antics, which include: microphone tricks, air-guitar, aerobatics and pretending to be more intoxicated than I actually am. Just to give the punters what they froth for, entertainment. What are you expecting on the upcoming US tour? What city are you most excited about playing?
A rough rider of a rock and roll tour: small bar shows, punks, weirdoes, cheap Budweiser, running in the red and some great Yankee-doodle bands and hospitality. I’m looking forward to playing with Obnox in Cleveland and that Fourth of July all day BBQ in Detroit has my appetite appropriately whet. One of your reviews described your music as ‘anti party rock’. I thought you would be great at parties. Maybe they are talking about Andrew WK.
Depends on what your opinion of what a party should entail. Most parties I go to these days are a pretty bad scene i.e. not-quite adults behaving badly. Come to think of it they always were, bad vibes cloaked by youthful enthusiasm and an inability to handle drugs and alcohol. Not much has or will change but whatever, don’t worry about all that, it’s all good! Anyway, we’d play with Andrew WK given the chance but I’m not even sure he’s even a real person, probably just a plant by the US Feds.

‘Weight’ is available June 29 on Homeless.
