Grotto are the new punks on the Melbourne block/heavily street-art stenciled laneway.Featuring members of Miss Destiny and Red Red Krovvy, the two gals and two guys, ply in a trade that could best be described as perverse and putrid rock and roll.Their recent demo Pink Sock blows large chunks of bitumen and stomach bile across the room.Grotto are playing our upcoming Noisey party where we have teamed up with the good people at OXJAM, to present a lineup that also includes fellow Melbourne rabble rousers Pronto and Tyrannamen. Entry is free but you need to RSVP and perhaps bring a waterproof raincoat.We caught up Grotto lead vocalist and Flying V guitarist Adam Ritchie.Noisey: What is the pink sock and whose is it? Or does it matter?
Adam Ritchie: Pink sock is a cheeky little term for an anal prolapse. The actual pink sock on the tap image is just a sock we dyed pink and shoved up my arse. I cut my butt for added effect and then took a piccy.What sample is that at the start?
The sample on the song is from that UK T.V show Embarrassing Bodies. Some lady was describing the feeling of her own personal pink sock. One website describes your demo as “freaky punk with mutant lyrics for the curiously perverse." Would you agree with this?
Yeah most of the tracks are lyrically fucked and we are pretty into reading stories on strange murders and the messed up things humans do.What does the track “Getting Off on Sick” refer to?
