At this point, I think it's a pretty safe thing to say that acoustic covers of hip-hop songs are played the hell out. It could get way worse, like it's mutant cousin the a capella cover. At best, they're boring and toothless, at worst they can be exploitive and racist. It's time for acoustic covers to start to sway into new territory—namely nu-metal. Last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Ed Sheeran covered a real stone cold classic, Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff." This is the kind of content we need in this cold, cold world: extremely funny covers of equally funny songs, sung by everyone's favorite ginger songster.
