Chela is a local girl who looks good in a cap, isn’t easily freaked out, and knows how to throw down on the dance floor. In unrelated news, she’s also makes music that is suitable for parties, bedrooms, and general areas that don’t require you to whisper.

She’s playing our Melbourne VICE Presents show this Thursday, so we felt it would be a good time to check in with her and ask her if she’s any good at holding her breath.

NOISEY: Hey Chelsea, so I’ve been seeing a lot of you on the Internet recently.
Chela: I had to make a relationship with the internet. I found it hard to get involved with it everyday because I like to live in the real world.

Do you get a lot of people trying to be friends with you? You seem like the type of chick that would get Facebook lurked.
Not really. It’s weird to have people wanting to be your friend based on what they see on the Internet, and by that I try to reply to everybody. But you know it gets really overwhelming, and it’s nice, but I don't think I've ever seen any of those people in real life. They don’t try to chase me down the street—the compliments add a spring in your step.

It’s not a bad confidence booster, but it must feel kind of trivial after a while.
Yeah because it’s like: you don't really know me but you wanna hang out? You get people saying, “Ohhh I really wanna marry you”, but it’s like—you don't really mean that. I’d be an awful person to marry.

Oh, I doubt that. Do you bust your video clip moves out at parties?
Every time. I find it strange because though because I don't drink. I'm intolerant to alcohol, I get the whole Asian flush thing going on; so when I go out, I go out to dance. Thats my thing. I don't understand really going to a bar and just sitting down. I mean I like chatting, but I have to dance.

Another thing I noticed is you’re really good at holding long notes, I bet you’re super good at holding your breath? I mean what’s the trick to that?
I think that’s just thanks to a lot of vocal training when I was a kid. My dad sent my sister and I to this opera school in an old mental asylum. We used to play hide and seek in the building. It was fucking freaky and awesome.

Speaking of freaky, the escalator scene in your full moon video looks dangerous.
I have no fear. It’s a problem. I have many scars.

Did you fall?
No. Actually I just have no fear. Sometimes I hit myself really badly. Sometimes I get away with it. That was one time I got away with it.

Watch Chela flirt with danger at our Melbourne VICE Presents show this Thursday at Ya Ya’s. RSVP here.
