Listen to Boosie Badazz's New Track, "Retaliation"

The latest single off 'Touch Down 2 Cause Hell' is tense and terrifying.

Boosie Badazz just put out a new song called "Retaliation." Like much of what Boosie records, it is completely distinct from practically everything else in rap, even though it's produced by go-to Atlanta hitmaker London on tha Track. A grim, vivid narrative of retaliating for a killing, it is simultaneously tense, terrifying, cold, and humanizing, switching its tone from one line to the next. Mothers and baby mamas make appearances. Each step is described in intense detail. Take, for example, this line, which whips from detailed storytelling to emotional aside to sudden burst of uncontrollable aggression: "Gas up the rental car, park 'round the corner / jump out this here for my dog / I ain't gonna lie / since he been gone it's been so much pain / rip 'em up with the Mac just like that." Few rappers get inside the heads of their subjects as well as Boosie.

"Retaliation" is off Boosie's upcoming album Touch Down 2 Cause Hell, which is out May 26. It's not the only Boosie on the horizon either: A compelling new profile in XXL today says there's a ton more music waiting, including a possible remix to Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" (!). The story also offers a great look at Boosie's writing process and family life, so check it out. But first, listen below to "Retaliation":
