Aging Kiwi Pop Legend’s Cover of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ Is As Busted As You’d Expect

Watch a slice of awkwardness.

Dave Dobbyn is a Kiwi musical icon. His involvement in 70s/80s bands Th’Dudes and DD Smash, as well as a distinguished solo career has earned him legendary status in New Zealand. But even an induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame isn’t going to change the fact that nobody under the age of 40 is going to care about his new album that's due in March.

So it seems his manager or label have suggested to Dave that he don his coolest Dad t-shirt and cover Drake’s "Hotline Bling" on a youth-oriented music television channel. This is what you call bad advice.

Watching Dave struggle/sweat through Drake’s hit song we couldn’t help but wonder what kind of pre-paid phone option he has or how cool it would be to see Drake perform Dobbyn’s 1986 classic “Slice of Heaven”.
