Guided By Voices Have a New Video Starring a Shitty Magician

Normally I like books and films where nothing happens, and nothing really happens in this video. It's just a magician sitting there getting ready to perform or something.

Guided by Voices are probably my favorite band ever, but as a 30-something divorced male that isn't too surprising. A girl once said to me: "How come all my ex-boyfriends love GBV and beer more than me?" I wanted to reply, "Because Guided by Voices don't constantly complain about their coworkers and want to stay in and watch bullshit on Netflix." But, of course, I didn't.

I like GBV so much that I wasn’t even a tiny bit mad when they had a show at Central Park a couple weeks ago and played a set list consisting of  a lot of new songs far inferior to the old ones I wanted to hear. There was a lot of me and everyone one else drinking free beer, and watching dudes older than me chain smoke and fist pump while singing the wrong words. Eventually I was buzzed enough to imagine that they were playing "Gold Star for Robot Boy," and that dude from the Watch Me Jumpstart documentary was in the front row mouthing the wrong words too.

Robert Pollard was wearing a purple shirt that was covered in beer and sweat by the second song, and he did that thing he does with his hands that's kind of awkward but cool while smoking cigarettes. He constantly referred to the crowd as kids, which was nice too since the only kids in attendance were actual children in strollers.

When I heard they were playing Central Park the weekend after the Fourth of July, it became my vocation to conduct a shitty-domestic-beer taste-test with the members of GBV, but their publicist said they weren’t into interview or brew reviews at the moment. He did, however, send me this link to the video for their new single, “Keep It in Motion."

The song,“Keep It In Motion,” is one of their new album's better tracks, but because the video is based around magic I hate it. Fuck magicians.
