The Knocks have easily outlived the hype bubble of their initial ride to relevance almost five years ago. The NYC-based production duo of Ben "B-Roc" Ruttner and James "JPatt" Patterson glide between pop and dance music with strong backbeats that prop up glossy pop sensibilities. They're as comfortable dropping heat alongside EDM royalty on Holy Ship as they are touring with radio pop acts like Grouplove as they are remixing international superstars like Katy Perry, and they still maintain the kind of grassroots ethos that often finds them DJing ragers thrown by their fans after gigs."Classic," the pseudo-titular tune from The Knocks' So Classic EP, featuring Powers, is basically a pool party recorded to song. Every time it comes on, everybody within earshot disrobes to their skivvies and dives into the largest body of water in sight. Sure, that sounds like fun, but it can get inconvenient in traffic or in the office.The Knocks reached all the way across North America to single out Vancouverite Pat Lok for remix duties. The DFA-affiliated producer has graduated from the bootleg game that made him, as evidenced by his MIXED BY from 2014 and the success of his UK house-influenced tune "All in My Head," released this year. Lok's remix of "So Classic" maintains the summery vibes, but kicks up the tempo just enough to take you from poolside to club vibes. They'll be rinsing this one well into the Fall.The Knocks are appropriately stoked about the remix. "Pat-Lok is our buddy and he killed this remix," they explain. "It sounds nothing like any other remixes we've had of the track in the best possible way. Love the groove and bounce of this one."The Knocks are currently in the midst of a US tour, and new NYC and LA dates have been announced.
