Thiago Silva Goes from Goat to Hero

Chelsea-PSG has had everything. Red cards, shoving matches, hand balls, goals. The whole bit.

Holy shit, what a match at Stamford Bridge. There was so much drama—Zlatan was sent off, Diego Costa could have been sent off twice, and Edinson Cavani was out there doing weird things very handsomely. Sorry, maybe that's just me—and that's before we even got to Thiago Silva losing his damn mind and then inexplicably leading PSG to the Champions League quarterfinals. We just needed another 20 minutes.

First, Gary Cahill opened the scoring off a free kick where the ball bounced around and a bit of a free for all formed in front of the net. Eventually, Costa swung wildly and inadvertently sent it right to Cahill who smacked it past Salvatore Sirigu. David Luiz netted the equalizer just four minutes later in the 85th minute with a header that will give you a crick in the neck, also off a free kick.

We made it about ten minutes before things got nutty again. In extra time, Thiago Silva, for some reason, decided to swat the ball out of the air with his hand, conceding a penalty kick. Eden Hazard got the honors and chipped in an easy goal for a 2-1 lead. Then Thiago Silva came back to redeem himself with a ridiculous header from about 14 yards out.

Just seconds after Thibaut Courtois stonewalled him on a corner kick, PSG earned another corner and Silva got the best of him with an arcing header that even the 6' 6" Belgian couldn't reach. PSG, who played with 10 men since the 30th minute, led on away goals and advanced to the quarterfinals.
