NFL Dos and Don'ts: Atlanta Falcons

Devin Hester had a great game in primetime for the Falcons, but do you remember that Stadium Video they created? Good grief.

As we prepare for another year of NFL football, let's take a look back at the highs and lows from 2014 for each team. Welcome to NFL Dos and Don'ts. If you missed one, you can read all our recaps right here.

Do

Hey! Just last night the Atlanta Falcons signed wide receiver Julio Jones to a five year extension. Jones had one year remaining on his rookie contract so the reported numbers for the extension are 6 years at somewhere around $3.5 billion per game. It will probably be slightly less than that once we know what the actual guarantees are, but still: way to go Falcons! There aren't a whole lot of better Dos out there than wrapping this guy up for six more years:

But that's not the official Do, that's just a common-sense Do. We are really here for Devin Hester, who set an NFL record for most career touchdown returns with his 20th return in a Week 3 game against the Buccaneers. Going into the game, Hester was tied with fellow Miami Hurricane and Falcons alum Deion Sanders with 19 total returns for his career: 13 punt returns, five kickoff returns, and one return on a missed field goal. Hester broke the tie with a 62 yard return to give Atlanta a 35-0 lead early in the second quarter and shouted out his mentor with his signature move.

Hester broke the record with Prime Time in the building on Thursday Night [whispers quickly] in primetime. This is the number one, best way to break a record you shared with Deion Sanders, there is no way it wasn't going to happen just like that.

Don't

Please, for the love of God, Don't make a fucking video like this for your new stadium. It is a stadium: brick and mortar and, like, bullet-proof windows made from recycled Chick-fil-A sandwiches or something; it doesn't need a theatrical movie trailer with ever-rising and inspiring music. Think about it for one second and it is one of the most absurd things you could ever imagine. "Come watch this video about a giant structure we will herd you into and stuff you full of exorbitantly-priced food and drink. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?"

If you haven't watched the original, you can do so here, and your first takeaway will be: Ohhh, those Bane quotes from The Dark Knight Rises weren't in the original? VICE Sports just added them? Huh. OK, then. So, there's a simple test* to determine whether you should or should not create a video about your new stadium: If Bane quotes don't make it any more ridiculous than it already is, skip the video and just pass out photo renderings or something.

*Not a real test. Don't ever make a video about a stadium.
