Puke, Spit and Guts Were Puerile, Spiteful, Sleazy and Amazing

Originally released in 1980, the San Fernando Valley punk’s 'Eat Hot Lead' LP is about to be reissued.

"Sex Pistols couldn't hold their liquor, Ramones wear tennis shoes! Alice Cooper is a party pooper, we're the punk band for youuuu!" So declares Donny Death on "Puke, Spit and Guts Theme" the opening track on degenerate Los Angeles punks Puke, Spit and Guts' 1980 album Eat Hot Lead.

Death, Captain Worm, Dick Head, Marie Manslaughter and Stuicide were a crew of true sleaze bags who tormented audiences with their absurd and amazing punk rock. Originally released on the San Fernando Valley band's own Important Records label, the infamous album Eat Hot Lead is about to be reissued Black Gladiator.

With tracks like "Kill For Kicks" and "Sidewalk Hog" (that you can stream below) the band were as antagonistic as they were loose.

In August 1980, Washington DC punks the Teen Idles, featuring a young Ian McKaye – who would later form Minor Threat – took a bus to California to play some shows. According to Michael Azzerand in his book Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground, the young punks ended up opening for the Mentors alongside Puke, Spit and Guts. The night ended with Puke, Spit and Guts bassist Dick Head chasing McKaye around the club's parking lot after he had borrowed and then blown Head's bass amp. You get the feeling that if caught, McKaye may not have survived to form the legendary Minor Threat.

'Eat Hot Lead' is available June 2 through Black Gladiator.
