Not to be confused with drum & bass label Bad Taste Recordings or the Swedish rock 'n' roll label Bad Taste Records, Bad Taste Records are a Sheffield based assortment of producers and DJs that range everywhere from hip hop to garage to bass music to spacey beat music. Although their name may not be particularly unique, the selection on their 5 Year Comp, vol. ii is remarkable in terms of quality."From day one we always wanted the label to be as varied as our own taste, none of us only listen to one genre of music and variety keeps things interesting," says label owner Abdullah Al-Wali. "Two of our favourite labels are Warp Records & Stones Throw, they're mad eclectic so their influence definitely rubbed off."Darkstorm's "Wu Han" is the chiptune version of a dubstep stomper, whereas Squarehead works some old-school, radio-adjacent garage on his remix of Tony Quattro's "Doubt." We've got the premiere of Walter Ego's "3K" above. It's a deftly produced bassline tune that is at one upfront and laid-back.
