Recap: Brisk Bodega Launch Party in Brooklyn

While reading this, please adopt your best Just Blaze voice.

This past Saturday evening, a line full of excited and rowdy people snaked its way down and around two blocks in Williamsburg. With doors scheduled to open at 9pm, the crowd started to amass about an hour prior, waiting patiently for the garage door to open so they could finally get a taste of Brisk Bodega, the new music and style channel brought to you by Noisey. Also, the night was headlined by a little guy who goes by the name of Just Blaze. To pass the time, friendly members of the Brisk team handed out cans of tea. Also, they handed out sunglasses. Lots and lots of sunglasses.

If you happened to show up earlier in the day, the warehouse—which was lined with original murals on its walls from Artek and Mr. Kiji—was open to the public for perusing pleasure. People filed in and out, enjoying art as DJs cut up and filled the space up with music. There was a lot of dancing, a lot of happiness, and a lot of smiling people drinking free Iced Tea. And once the Bodgea reopened later in the evening, the party continued.

Though before Just Blaze took the stage, DJ Slink, Brenmar, Roofeeo, and DJ Monique all warmed the crowd up (who, let’s be honest, didn’t seem to need that much to warm them up). Spotted in the Bodega were all sorts of Important Local New York Rappers, like Lakutis, Kitty (Pryde), Hot Sugar, Chippy Nonstop, and Remy Banks and Nasty Nigel from Children of the Night. But most of them spent their evening up in the VIP area, versus in the dancing and sweaty-in-the-best-way crowd.

Be sure to check photos from the hazy night. If you missed out, don’t sweat it because Brisk Bodega is coming to 13 more cities across the United States. We could end up in your backyard. Just be sure to show up with your best Just Blaze voice.
