Hunx And His Punx on Shannon And The Clams

There are a lot of good bands out there, sometimes too many to talk to—it’s super stressful guys. So to maximise our ultra streamlined journalistic process we decided to get two of our favourites to make our lives easier and interview each other. Seth Bogart’s cult band Hunx and His Punx have been making kids sweat for a while now, so in the lead up to their Australian tour with the equaly weirdo-cool Shannon And The Clams we had them face off in a battle of wits and opinions on butts.

Shannon Shaw: Hunx, what is your ideal breakfast?

Seth Bogart: A grape e-cigarette, Muscle Milk, coffee, and a side of fries. Why do you smell so good after a show and I always smell disgusting? What is your secret potion?

I sweat coconut. I can't help it! I also love oils and lotions and potions and am always trawling for new tropical flesh tenderisers while on tour. It's such a stinky sweaty world and I spend so much time in a van with reekers. I take pride in smelling fresh whenever possible. Who is the first person you made out with, with tongue?

I honestly have no idea but I can assure you that I was a very slutty toddler. What cartoon character would you do it with if you could only do it with a cartoon for the rest of your life?

He-man, duh. Those furry boots, those glossy biceps—or Skeletor—fuck it I'm taking ye olde Skeletor. He's evil and funny. That combo tells me he may be good in the sack. Plus he's always got some sort of boner. What is the grossest habit you have?

Yikes. Maybe trying to yank the thickest most sensual nose hair out of my nostril and putting it in my mouth to bask in the texture. Trichotillomania—I was born with it. Describe to your fans your alter egos Shaka and Baby Junior.

Oh boy, well Shaka is mostly dead now. She gets real drunk and is a defender of evil. She is very confrontational and sometimes misguided on her quest of right and wrong. Shaka has gotten into a few physical fights over the last couple of years. She can be helpful when warding off mean jocks or horny creep bros or paparazzi, but can also be annoying and confused and crazy. She also always wants a damn sandwich. Shaka is gone now that Shannon stopped drinking vodka. Baby Junior is a funny pleasant little gigglin’ joke baby. She loves tequila and is my alter ego that is most often present. Baby Junior is really good at Spanish and German (whereas sober Shannon isn't) and is always up for a good time whether it's night swimming, boogyin', karaoke, or wrestling the shit out of Hunx and winning! If you had to hear one song for the rest of your life, every day, all day, what would it be?

Maybe "Glamazon" by Ru Paul or "Divine Hammer" by The Breeders. How do you write so many good songs? Who is your favorite songwriter?

Thanks sweet angel. I don't know. I don't understand how I am pulling this off. What people don't know is these songs start off as me being a dorky-ass loner driving around in my car singing to myself just like when I was kid. Every time I was disciplined or my brothers were mean to me I'd go somewhere to be alone and sing a horrible little made up song about being lonely, secretly being a princess, my mom being a wicked witch, my bros being trolls so on. My fave songwriter of all time is Roy Orbison, I also love Gene Pitney and Natalie Ribbons. Hottest Australian of all time?

I can't remember right now, but I would sit on the Wolverine's face.

Favorite conspiracy theory?

That I am Lana Del Rey. What makes a man's butt look sexy? What qualities does a hot butt have?

Well, I'm new to butts. I always thought they were just funny objects for awkward flexing or gas passin’. Now that I've graduated to butt admiring, I think the main thing for me is that they cannot know they have a nice butt. I don't think I could recognise a "hot butt" on a man—lady is easy—but for a dude it's a more subtle thing.

What I can tell you about a not hot butt is that I signed one the other day and it had a bit of toilet paper rolled up in the butt fur along the crack. I signed around it. Favorite thing about Australia?

The beach and the candy. What are you most excited about seeing on your second trip to Australia?

Cool buddies I met last time, more countryside, hopefully more beach. Will it be warm in April? I really hope so. I would like to see some wildlife honestly. Australia has the most fascinating biodiversity in the world. Please keep all the spiders away from me
