Chicago footwork veteran, Traxman, has paid tribute to the late Maurice White with a new mix entitled "TRAXMAN' DOES E.W.F FOOTWORK (r.i.p Brother Maurice White)." White, founder of the iconic American band Earth, Wind & Fire, passed away last week in Los Angeles at the age of 74 from the effects of Parkinson's disease, and has since been eulogized by President Obama. While Cornelius Ferguson, aka Traxman's albums are usually characterized by eclectic sampling tendencies—he'll jump from understated bells to hard rock—this mix finds him exploring moods and sounds as expansively as ever despite the fact that he's sampling just one band. Probably a testament to Earth, Wind & Fire's genius as much as it is Ferguson's skill as a producer and DJ.The band's lush orchestration and gorgeous vocal harmonies in their music provide an entrancing juxtaposition to Ferguson's aggressive approach to rapid fire—almost glitchy—sampling, creating a soft landing to his signature hard edge. Check out the mix in full below, also available as a free download.
