YACHT Perform "Plastic Soul" Inside a Spaceship

Or a computer. At least that's what it looks like from here.

Earlier this year we traveled to Asheville, North Carolina to attend Moogfest. We got geeky with Janelle Monae, met the man behind Moog, talked to Giorgio Moroder about the making of "I Feel Love," and got totally freaked out by a cyborg man. Basically it was a synth-nerd's utopia and we had a great time, but there was also all sorts of stuff that was going on over those five days that we couldn't get to, because, you know, time restraints, only having one body, stuff like that.

For instance somewhere in Asheville was the Moog Sound Lab where bands were squirreled away recording secret sessions and over the next few weeks we'll be premiering the cream of the crop from those recordings. As is befitting of YACHT's synthy, retro-futurist sonics, the Mooglab looks like the LA-based duo have set up base camp inside a computer, or possibly a spaceship. Above they perform their single "Plastic Soul" (which came out on DFA earlier this year); an excellent reminder of the songwriterly prowess. YACHT make more music!

Mind you, it's not like they haven't been busy. As well as tinkering away on music they recently released a free iPhone app called 5 Every Day, which is an interactive tool that suggests five cool things to do in Los Angeles each day.

As curated by YACHT, the selections are broken into five categories—Art, City, Food, Music, and Wildcard—which could be anything from architectural sights and hikes to art happenings, secret shows, neighborhood favorites, ethnic grocery stores, and club nights. It's actually a super sweet idea because if you don't know anyone in LA it can be a sprawly, lonely, discombobulating place.

And in lieu of more new music you can go see them on tour!
