Sure, it's cool that a lot of bands are changing metal and hardcore to incorporate new melodies and stuff. But sometimes any sense of happiness or positivity is completely counterintuitive to what you want to get out of your music: total burial into the depths of darkness and gloom. Witchrist is a death metal band from Auckland that will shred your shit up. With their new track "The Golden Ascent," the band shows a whole lot of ascent in instrumentation. Every grimy riff and drum kick keeps adding on top of each other until it brings you down into some strange hellscape. Witchrist doesn't fuck around; there's no shoegazey bridge or post-rock crescendo to give you some kind of reprieve. Instead the track chugs along, choking you out inch by inch with grimy, twisting and contorting heaviness.Get wrecked by the track below.
