This Animated Insanity from Wing Dam Will Make Your Silly Brain Melt

Baltimore’s bulging music scene is truly the shit. Led by synth-pop sensation Future Islands and heavy-assed grungemeisters Roomrunner and Dope Body, along with buzz bands Hive Bent, Multicult, Pure Junk and Wildhoney, Charm City is a ridiculous haven of awesomeness. Now, Wing Dam is ready to burst. The self-described “very crunchy” coed trio ace super-fuzzed out, candy-sweet noise-pop, and its latest pogo-inciting riffer, fittingly titled Shifter Bliss, is just that: arena-ready, sun-splashed quietLOUDquiet pedal-hopping anthemic crushers with dashes of Pixies and Sugar 90s alternapop catchiness.

Wing Dam’s dizzying new video for grungy ripper, “Counting Steps,” mirrors its super-colorful pop-head leanings and fellow Baltimore staples Future Islands have heeded the call: they’ve given their Wing Dam buds an opening slot on a run of their upcoming tour. The vid is a collaboration between James Thomas Marsh and Greg St. Pierre, who have done live video work for Dan Deacon, Animal Collective, and most recently OK Go. Here’s Marsh getting all technical and shit on the animated insanity of “Counting Steps”: "Greg and I made some video feedback with a video camera and a video mixer. I processed that footage with the VJ software VDMX and some quartz composer plugins that mixed in the animations by delaying the pixels in the video feedback." That’s deep, man.
