We Spoke to Bromance Records

Immediately following a blistering back-to-back set alongside Brodinski and Gesaffelstein, I found a couple empty chaise lounges and sat down for a chat with Leo and Geoff of Monsieur Monsieur, and Louisahhh!!!, the lovely Bromance first lady.

It's no secret that the Paris-based label Bromance has created a thriving community around distempered, thudding technotronique. Featuring the likes of Jacques lu Cont and Pipes, it's music for the machines we aspire to be. So, immediately following a blistering back-to-back set alongside Brodinski and Gesaffelstein, I found a couple empty chaise lounges and sat down for a chat with Leo and Geoff of Monsieur Monsieur, and Louisahhh!!!, the lovely Bromance first lady.

Noisey: First off, that was an awesome back to back set.
Louisahhh: That was actually the first time we've all played together before. It was messy, but I think it worked out well.
Leo: It was a good family moment. It's nice to be with old friends and the whole crew.

But this isn't the first time the entire crew's been together…
Geoff: No…
Louisahhh: The entire crew's not here. We're missing Club Cheval and Pipes and Lil Mike. So we have a rather large extended family, but this is the first time this whole group has been playing together.
Leo: We usually play together in France a lot of the time, but Louisahhh was missing and now she's with us… It's quite a nice thing.
Louisahhh: I'm kind of making a slow bi-continental move from New York/LA to Paris. Paris/New York/LA seems like a pretty okay deal.

Geoff, Louisahhh!!!, and Leo.

This is also your first time playing in Miami. What were the vibes you got from the crowd?
Leo: A lot of different feelings about the crowd. I don't think they're used to listening to our music and I hope that they're going to come around to techno soon. But people really like breaks in their music, it gets them moving. It was a good time.

Were there specific tracks you tailored to the audience?
Louisahhh: As the week goes on we'll have a better idea of how that's gonna go. Maybe play a little bit more mainstream. It seems like the Bromance tracks went over the best…

Is that surprising?
Louisahhh: Not at all. All of our tracks were the ones that made the most impact. I think those were the ones people were expecting to hear most, obviously, but it's always interesting at a party like this, when you're playing right after 12th Planet and Flinch, right before the Boys Noize Crew…. It's really nice to play with all your friends, but also challenging because everyone is so diverse.

Was there a game plan going in?
Louisahhh: We just showed up and were like, "Oh, we're going on? OK."

So you all have music coming out. Tell me about your working process.
Leo: We're all in the studio together, and when we're not together, we're sharing everything on the internet. We stay exchanging projects online… Just finished a new remix for a good friend of ours, Panteros666, from Club Cheval, and we're working on a lot of new tracks for Bromance… And I think the next big thing to come is Louisahhh!
Louisahhh: My release is the next on Bromance, in April. It's gonna be a two-track EP, and I'm so excited.

When you guys play in Paris, is there an audience you can count on?
Leo: Absolutely. In Paris, most of France, and lots of Europe as well.. We've been traveling for the past six months with the team and it was sold out every time. I think so.
Louisahhh: Yeah, for instance there's a Bromance residency at Paris Social Club, which is kind of like our home base, and this last one was Louis [Brodinski], myself, Panteros was doing his live act for the first time, which is the most incredible thing I think I've ever seen in my life… It's an audiovisual extravaganza, where he's actually projecting a 3D map of himself alongside visuals he's made of like, dolphins with lasers on their heads against a background flashing, "Life, Life, Life," while this insane laser beam snare drum warfare is happening… So that was an epiphany, and presales for that sold out like a week before and the place was so packed you couldn't move. And that's how all the Bromance shows are. It's insane. Big ups to Panteros!!

Looking towards the future, your release comes next, Louisahhh. What comes after that?
Louisahhh: There's a lot of rad stuff in the pipeline. We're doing two Coachella parties and then the Bromance team will be traveling in different teams around Europe… It's amazing to be part of a crew that's this much fun and this talented. It's such a gift. And I know [to Leo and Geoff] you guys are working on an EP, and Club Cheval is working on an EP… Everybody's working constantly, so it depends on who finishes first and what's appropriate to release, but there's so much good work in the pipeline, it's so exciting.
Leo: I prefer to wait before speaking about the EP… It's gonna come, just need a little more time.
Geoff: Keep checking the Internet. Everything will come when it's ready.

Can't wait. Thanks for speaking to me!

Here's a sneak preview to Louisahhh's new track with Brooklyn beatsmiths Walker and Royce. Catch the crew at Coachella next month, and make sure you stay tuned to Bromance!
