We Asked Cruelster Questions Based on Their Facebook Updates

The Cleveland hardcore band are back with a new record on their own Turbine Piss label.

Cruelster shot by Em DeMarco.

Insane hardcore punk has always been important in a city like Cleveland. With a large percentage of the population obsessed with football and game day wing specials, bands such as Cruelster act as a necessary foil to a social and cultural dementia.

While often violent and misanthropic, there has never been anything cool about Cleveland hardcore and Cruelster continue this tradition.

The band, whose members include Runt, Kid Gone Crazy, and YesYes, have an upcoming seven-inch and we're premiering one of the tracks from it below. Bascially what you get is sixty seconds of classic US hardcore played at frenetic speed with blusterd vocals. It’s mental and very good.

We asked Piss—another member of the band—some questions that were inspired by the band's Facebook updates.

"we are the next total abuse"
Noisey: Who is your favorite Texan band?
Piss: Slimy Member because we played with them and they were good and had a great band name. But we found out they got that band name from a Rudimentary Peni song and then we decided that they weren't our favorite anymore, but still are good. Our favorite Texas band is the next Texas band that takes the DIY initiative and works very hard at becoming the next Social Distortion. That is something we are trying to do ourselves in Ohio (we aren't even our own favorite own Ohio band), but we will be soon. February 27 at 5.04 PM
“This is the last copy of our new tape. Will you be the one to buy it? No because I'm saving it for my dad”
Who in your family hates that you are in a punk band the most?
Our mother can't stand it. Too loud, too much swearing. Our third sister later moved out because of the loud music. She was later replaced by an adoptive sister.

"Tonight we close the chapter on potatoe boys and enter the new phase: acid babies."
What is the drunkest you have been?
One lively New Years Eve I drank 10-ish cans of Lime-A-Ritas, then walked to a corner of the house party and told a group of girls that they shouldn't go to college because it's really hard to make friends there. I eventually found myself in and out of a black-out while sitting on a toilet pissing. I thought I would pass out while sit-peeing and I knew that's not how I wanted to die. So I went downstairs and was fading in and out of black-out, when this ska punk kid zapped me with a taser. I was mad but glad that that I could now tell people that I know what a taser feels like. Later I heard Leftover Crack blasting from the iHome in the living room. I went home and threw up a lot and woke up and screamed "What a night."

"does anyone know anyone who can help us get a show in china"
Who are you, the Black Lips?
That's ironic that you say that. No, we are not the Black Lips but we do all have chapped lips. We're Cruelster.

"the worlds worst band in America The Replacements are going on tour to your city. activate ISIS activate ISIS."
What is the best thing about your new seven-inch?
The hell it brings. It is our best songs so far, better than the LP, better than The Clash (but not better than The Sex Pistols). There’s no reverb and mastered by a red-haired man. We pressed it on our own label, Turbine Piss Records which better than Hellcat Records but not better than Geffen.

The new Cruelster 7" is available now on Turbine Piss records.
