When I was about 11 I got into this habit with my best friend Lois: we would take her cat and set it free in a neighborhood in San Francisco called Pacific Heights. Lots of wealthy people live there so its full of huge mansions with insane backyards which I was really keen on exploring. My 11-year-old rational was, let the cat go running through the yards, persue the cat, find adventure! If anyone caught us we'd just start crying and say we were looking for our kitty Smudge. Foolproof. And it was!This video by Santa Cruz-based musician Oliver Tree Nickell—known as Tree—totally reminds me of being that kid who was into squeezing through holes and clambering over fences, falling into people's private property searching for secret worlds. Except in this six minute short, which Tree conceived and co-directed (with Steve Dabal), he's chasing a white bunny and working with sweet set of wheels that he can't drive.I'm also heavily into the featured real life Ewok village (where is that and when can I move in?), and the fact that Tree starts off looking like Luke Skywalker before disrobing a la Channing Tatum in Magic Mike. Musically "Stuck Down the Rabbit Hole" is a twinkly, carefree concoction that floats by on shimmering synths and weird reverse incantations. It's a tune that's only tethered to this earth thanks to a bloopy bassline.
