Watch The Knocks' Video for "Classic" - the Powers Sunset Version

November in New York City in particular, is a transitional time of year. Memories of the recent summer linger awkwardly as we begin to pull out our caps and coats. In terms of seasonality, we are physically “here” in the chilly winds while mentally “there” in the sun.

When Noisey premiered The Knocks’ song “Classic” featuring Powers, we dubbed it a summer jam, which made perfect sense three months ago. Today, The Knocks are premiering what they’re calling the “Powers Sunset Version” of the song, a rework that seamlessly fits the shift from one time of year to the next. This track sounds like a stoned version of the original: slower, toned down, and drifting. While a feeling of warmth remains, it seems to originate from a fireplace rather than the Miami sun.

Above is the premiere of the video for this rework which piggybacks the coming nostalgia for the dog days with spliced scenes from iconic movies like Scarface and features stars like Grace Jones and a young Meryl Streep. Everything is old-timey and idealistic (hence the name of the song), painting the world to seem flawlessly glamorous and beautiful in the summer sun. Lana Del Rey is sitting in a hotel room somewhere, chain-smoking cigarettes while wishing she could teleport herself into this video.

There’s not much known about the duo Powers except that they are LA/NYC based. In fact, the most you’ll find on the internet is an article about how there is nothing about Powers on the internet. So we’re going to let that mystery marinate a bit longer.
