The question is not “Do robots have sex?” but rather “What kind of freaky sex do robots have?” Turing Machine’s new album shows us that we have much to learn from the machines in the ways of love. But we built the tools, and their sounds only confirm our subconscious fantasies.

Turing Machine occupies a strange space just this side of hypnotic. It’s too engaging to tune out and too evasive, slippery, and mysterious to read into. This is music for smart people to dance like idiots, and for stupid people to expand their minds and get inspired. The record coming so long after their first is due in part to the tragic death of drummer (and DFA wünderkid) Jerry Fuchs. Although it's impossible to read into the music, there is an unavoidable sense of vitality in the release.

Moving beyond and between musical styles, switching themes and mixing sounds from humans to machines, the album feels like fucking a robot. Any time you think you know what’s going on, the music subtly shifts, testing your patience and dutifully rewarding it. Like an android dominatix, Turing Machine wants to train you, to teach you, punish and pleasure you. This album may well make you a better listener, could probably teach you to be a better dancer, and will definitely make you a better lay.
