Photo by Karl ScullinI will say definitively that Total Control's 2011 effort Henge Beat is one of the best albums of the past five years. The eleven track beast conjures the perfect marriage of volatile punk, electronic minimalism, post-punk and damn good songwriting, one that sticks with you for a long long time. Three years later and with Henge Beat still in rotation, to say that the release of a new Total Control LP is highly anticipated is nothing short of an understatement.Don't take the new track "Expensive Dog" as an indication of their Typical System LP as a whole though. The latest Total Control single, which appears here for the first time, is a reverb-heavy garage-y ripper, and the closest to material on the band's near perfect 2011 effort Henge Beat. But if you're thinking the new LP is Henge Beat part 2, be warned that Typical System is anything but; the new LP expands on the band's some of the same ideas from previous material but with stronger songwriting and more complex melodies.Translation: Typical System rips and so does the latest single "Expensive Dog."
