The Weeknd: "Rolling Stone" Video

Abel Tesfaye traffics in shallow thoughts about bad things, but goddamn he can sing.

At this point, "The Weeknd" might as well be shorthand for "shallow thoughts about bad things," but goddamn if Abel Tesfaye can't sing like a motherfucker. He's got a sense of aesthetics, too, which is what makes the video for "Rolling Stone" so great. It's little more than him sitting in a chair with the camera slowly panning out, but it manages to capture the quiet desperation and emptiness of the aural hangover that is a Weeknd song.

The thing about Tesfaye is that when it comes to music videos is that he's random as fuck. This is the second official video he's ever made (he was in outer space for the first one), and this one is for a track from his least-loved mixtape. But, I guess we'll take what we can get. The Weeknd is re-releasing his three mixtapes in the appropriately-titled Triolgy next month.
