The Stevens Premiere a New Track Before They Present Their Passports to US Immigration

The Melbourne power poppers release "Thirsty Ear", a new track from their next album.

Melbourne’s The Stevens just released “Thirsty Eye,” a new digital track on the eve of their first US tour. It’s a good chance for venues to post the song on their Facebook event page for those Americans who may not understand what ‘Flying Nun inspired pop’ means.

It also just happens to be a cracker of a song. Recorded earlier this year, it features co-front man Travis Macdonald on lead vocals and “bah, bahs.” No doubt the band’s other vocalist Alex Macfarlane would be doing those jerky up and down guitar moves that he does so well.

The track follows the four-piece’s 24-track album A History of Hygiene released on Chapter records, and continues their knack of writing amazingly catchy pop gems. The band are about to head out on a 15-date tour that includes Goner Fest and shows with fellows Aussie’s Rat Columns and Scott and Charlene’s Wedding.

The tour also comes in time of their debut seven-inch being reissued on Canadian label Kingfisher Bluez .

Before the Stevens are reintroduced to Taco Bell we had a real quick chat to Trav.

Noisey: That Columbus show with Connections looks sweet. A GBV off!
Travis Macdonald: The Columbus show will be pretty good. Connections are a great band. Ohio is a bit of a mecca for us. We'll pay our respect to GBV and also Devo and the Breeders, the Pretenders, Cramps and Necros, and I think the Wright brothers are also from Dayton. That’s just Ohio. I guess that is what I am looking forward to most, I grew up USA obsessed and I’ve never been before, they'll be a different list of heroes and icons in every state to tribute.

Your debut seven-inch is getting reissued (again) When you first wrote "Fast Cars" did you ever imagine it getting a Canadian release?
We were a little surprised about the Kingfisher Blues release. We agreed to do it a couple of years ago. They timed it perfectly. When I wrote “Fast Cars” just the idea of it being pressed onto a record was enough of a novelty for me.
