Bleached are sisters Jennifer and Jessie Clavin who grew up outside Los Angeles, CA in the San Fernando Valley where they taught themselves how to make music, short films, and skate. As teenagers they became wallflowers of the infamous DIY punk venue, The Smell. Their all-girl punk band Mika Miko signed to Kill Rock Stars and Post Present Medium but soon disbanded, opening the door for Jennifer to move East and tour extensively with Cold Cave, while Jessica stayed in LA and joined Cold Showers. It wasn't until Jennifer moved back to LA that the sisters made the decision to make music together as Bleached.The sound of Bleached is economic: warm melodies combined with fast punk riffs for a golden pop appeal. It recalls many of the iconic bands of the 1970s: The Ramones, Blondie, Black Flag, The Germs, The Slits, Fleetwood Mac, Shangri-Las, and The Kinks. But, the real identity of their sound treads a fine line along identity politics: narcissism versus objectification, desire and attraction, longing and sadness, and genuine feelings about REAL romance.Previously, they released a series of impressive 7" records with Ooga Booga—a Los Angeles art, book, and fashion boutique imprint, Art Fag Recordings, and Suicide Squeeze.Their highly regarded first full length LP entitled Ride Your Heart, engineered by LA rock wizard Rob Barbato (Cass McCombs, Darker My Love, The Babies, La Sera), is out now on Dead Oceans.For this session Bleached played several songs off their new album including, "Waiting by the Telephone," "Love Spells" and a Misfits cover, "Hybrid Moments."
