Listen to Sweet John Bloom's LP 'Weird Prayer'

Fifteen new songs from Cambridge's finest.

The advent of apps like Shazam and SoundHound has saved us a lot of embarrassment. No longer do you have to be sitting in a club or restaurant and ask what song is playing. One place it really comes in handy is in record stores. Way back when, you’d have to do the loser’s march up to the counter with your tail between your legs and suffer the crushing embarrassment of asking what cool indie rock band was playing over the store’s speakers. The clerk would judge you and mock your musical tastes. Sweet John Bloom would definitely have brought you some record store shame.

The Cambridge, MA band’s new LP Weird Prayer is exactly the sort of record you’d hear coming off a record store’s turntable and sheepishly purchase a copy. It sounds like the combined vibes from your favorite indie rock records of the last 25 years, with some nods to bands like Pavement and Guided by Voices and some faster punk riffs akin to Drive Like Jehu and Ted Leo. Really, we’re just throwing a lot of comparisons out at you because there’s a lot pressed into these 15 songs and we want you to sound cool and knowledgeable the next time you walk into a record store.

Weird Prayer is out next week from Tiny Engines. Listen to the whole thing below and order your copy here. Tour dates below.
