This article originally appeared on Noisey Canada.Despite its dreary surroundings, we all know Ottawa is truly the birth of sin in this otherwise great country. So who better to remind us of this than global troll/Morrissey-padawan/Sun Kil Moon frontman Mark Kozelek. After a show at Toronto’s Opera House, Kozelek decided to serenade the audience with the eloquently named single “The Ottawa Blues Fest is Run By Inbreds.” Seemingly, Kozelek already has a history of warm feelings towards the city after last years Ottawa Folk Festival played ground zero to the beef between his band and the War on Drugs.Being a man who believes in punching up, Kozelek’s new song take aim at Ottawa CityFolk Festival (keep in mind these are two different festivals because Ottawa lacks imagination) after having to cancel “due to unorganized promoters.” By which he means, festival organizer Mark Monahan, who argues that the entire situation is being blown out of proportion. According to him, Kozelek’s departure was caused by numerous festival organizers who emailed him with several notes about transportation, catering and stage management before he responded with a “profanity-laced ultimatum” (which was probably a great read) and canceled. But not before sharing several articles on the bands website linking past problems with Monahan and Ottawa festivals including the 2011 stage collapse of Ottawa’s Blues Fest that occurred while Cheap Trick played onstage—and whose “Dream Police” inspired the aforementioned track.Now, while we don’t condone these lyrics here are some choice excerpts from Kozelek’s live soliloquy—courtesy of one particularly patriotic patron—which may explain (some) of his actions.
