L7's Donita Sparks Loves Drugstore Bling But Hates Airplanes

The beloved alt-rock quartet details the creature comforts getting them through their first proper tour in almost 20 years.

For the first time in 18 years, L7 granted a ton of fan wishes by reuniting for a tour. The band, known for their hard rock humor, created a Kickstarter earlier this year to help fund a documentary they're putting together called Pretend We’re Dead. However, the band unexpectedly received more funding than they asked for, and with enough fans’ pleas, they decided to start playing shows again. The members hadn’t even been in the same room for years. Because it’s been almost two decades since their last L7 shows, it’s not surprising that the band would want to be comfortable throughout this tour. Frontwoman Donita Sparks filled us in on why CVS bling is her thing and why she needs anything that will make her flights more comfortable.

SILK SLEEP MASK

“Nothing says 'leave me alone' like a sleep mask on a plane. Keep chatty neighbors and passive aggressive cabin crews away.”

CVS BLING

“I’ve been loving my Hot Jewels that I found at CVS. They are my current gimmick and obsession. In fact, one of the duties of L7’s tour manager is to apply the Hot Jewels on me before the show. I enjoy overkill so I should have close to full sleeves by the end of this tour.”

COMFORTABLE SHOES

“My feet are trashed from stomping around in engineer boots for years. What I need now is PADDING. These shoes are made for walkin’. I can pull off a hands free Pee Wee Herman ‘Tequila’ move in them as well.”

MY BIGGEST FAN

“It combines my hatred of claustrophobic, hot airplanes with my love for souvenirs. Comes in handy.”

ONE HOME SPEAKER

“This speaker cranks and is great for a dressing room or hotel room. I got it at a Radioshack Going Out of Business sale (RIP). Very loud and effective. I even got a noise complaint while staying in an Airbnb apartment in Paris from listening to 'Wooden Ships' at three in the morning.”
