Photo by Daniel Alexander HarrisDressing in all black is one way to make a statement as a performer, but Emmy the Great can make wearing all white look just as dramatic. With long black braids and a knowing smirk, the half-Chinese, half-British singer-songwriter looks on the verge of sprouting angel wings. Her slick, electronic pop music is similarly celestial. The singer previously known for acoustic “anti-folk” has evolved her sound into something more produced and cavernous and her sartorial choices have certainly followed suit. Honed by an ethereal on-stage aesthetic featuring flashing lights and hologram visuals, Emmy the Great’s most recent EP S and the gorgeous single "Swimming Pool" mark a shift from the artist’s earlier and less conceptual debut. We spoke to Emma-Lee Moss, the woman (and occasional Noisey contributor) behind Emmy the Great, about a few of her essential fashion go-tos."I like having a uniform on tour and I tend to wear simple white dresses on stage. This one is my fallback dress. I try not to rely on it too heavily but let’s just say it smells really bad at the end of tour.""This is becoming another staple. I love wearing it because it feels like a sack.""I know they look awkward but they’re super comfortable. I can’t really squeeze my giant feet into anything dainty.""I do love a sock. This bag travels with me everywhere.""I had to learn how to dutch braid my hair for this tour, to match my hologram visuals. I’ve become so amazing at it I might start sending myself bills for hair styling. As a result of the braids, this bag of small rubber bands is just as important as my pedalboard."
