Style Rider: Domino Kirke Likes Jumpsuits Because They Make It Look Like She Tried

The rockstar doula has more than a few tricks up her flowing sleeves.

You probably know Domino Kirke as the daughter of a rock star (Simon), or the sister of a Girls actress (Jemima), or the occasional girlfriend of a former teen heartthrob (Penn Badgley), or one of Brooklyn’s most in-demand doulas. However, the second you hear “Ordinary World,” a dreamy collaboration with Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple and the first single off her forthcoming EP, your perception of the longtime Williamsburg resident will change entirely.

Domino had her first big break in the music industry back in high school (she went to LaGuardia, but you already guessed that), and then she took a little time off to focus on her son. Eventually her birthing business took off, and a little time turned into years. But in 2014, she and Temple, a neighborhood acquaintance, started writing songs together, and before she knew it, Independent Channel had come together. Now the four-track EP is coming out on May 26th, and her residency at Baby’s All Right kicks off a week prior. We caught up with the singer to find out what she’ll be bringing along when she hits the stage, and it’s unsurprisingly inspired. Jessa would definitely be down with those jumpsuits.

SCARVES

“I’m known for wearing obnoxiously long, soft scarves year-round. Instant ‘home’ for me, no matter where I am.”

KEEPSAKE RING

“The ring is from a friend. She made it. It reminds of a tough time we went through together, and came out the other side. A good luck charm, I suppose. That nail polish is also my favorite…”

LUCAS PAW PAW

“Lucas Paw Paw ointment is a fixture in my house. My son is accident prone, so we use it everywhere for cuts and scrapes. But for me, it's makeup since I hardly wear any. I put it on my eyelids and cheeks for a little pick-me-up.”

HOOP EARRINGS

“I’m lucky to know so many local, crazy-talented jewelry designers. Scosha is an old friend, and gifted me those huge hoops, which I now wear to complete any outfit. Game-changing accessory.”

JUMPSUITS

“I own one too many jumpsuits. They're great for layering, and for a quick change. Always so easy to throw on. They make it look like I really tried!"
