Staff Picks and Good Shit for the Week of November 28

This is what the Noisey editors listened to (and were thankful for) this week.

Good job, guys! We survived the long (or not so long) journey homeward, the stifling embrace of our families' collective bosoms, Thanksgiving, and now we're rounding the corner on Black Friday. Well, most of us are. Be thankful that you weren't one of the fallen few—and maybe try shopping online next year? Anyway, this week, we asked our team of Noisey editors what they're thankful for this year.

DOMINIC RANDOLPHE - "PICS OF ME AROUND IN MY SHOES"

Hmmm. Things to be thankful for. I'm thankful for the Instgram account

this man

with a rogue-ish sense of humor and a collection of cats. I'm thankful

Janet Jackson wrote a song about not sleeping with someone on the first date

that's so good it actually makes me want to give up sex entirely. JK! As if! But it is a really great song. Mostly though I'm thankful that Dominic Randolphe entered my life with this compilation of pictures of him showing off his shoe collection to the strains of Mariah's "Always Be My Baby." Look at the happiness on his face. He is spreading the love. He knows how to casually lean. He understands the power of a cheeky, over the shoulder glance. Bless you Dominic and may all of us strive to be as happy in life as you are with your shoe collection. Mariah would most certainly approve.

NOFX - “THE DECLINE”

I’m not even much of a NOFX fan but I am a fan of value. And if you’re going to head to the townie bar with your old high school buddies at any point this Thanksgiving weekend to escape the soul-crushing latently racist conversations back in your family’s dining room, I’d recommend seeing if they have this song on the jukebox. Eighteen minutes for a couple of quarters is a worthwhile escape. So that’s what I’m thankful for this year—friends who are there to remind you that not the entire country is still living in 1955. And value.

SAY ANYTHING - "WOW, I CAN GET SEXUAL TOO"

I'm a Thanksgiving orphan this year, unable to make the trip home to see my family. It's always a bummer when that happens—you're left drinking coffee while playing video games and watching football as your friends text you challenging stories of interacting with problematic family members, which is something that sounds lame but you still somehow feel a charming bit of nostalgia and loneliness—so last night, I ended up at my friend's place. His mom was in town and cooked up a great dinner, and afterwards we sat around drinking, laughing, and listening to music. At one point, someone put Say Anything on and we all started feeling like we were teenagers again and singing along. So I guess, when I am forced to say what I'm thankful for, I'll go ahead and be basic and say that I'm thankful for friendship and the fact that I've, somehow, managed to build somewhat of a life in this daunting city.

TY DOLLA $ - "STAND FOR"

I've never really been the biggest Ty$ fan for reasons I haven't been able to pinpoint. Maybe it's because I've always liked The Weeknd, who operates in the same ratchet realm, albeit in a vocal range that's closer to Ariana than Nate Dogg. Or maybe it's because I live in a place where there's winter for six months of the year, so I'm unable to properly enjoy the visual imagery of cabanas and sun soaked orgies that Ty$ so often employs. But one day, in Montreal, Kyle Kramer chose to put this song on during a pre-drink session. Ever since, I've been unable to get it out of my head and now need to hear it at least twice a day or else I'll explode into a cloud of ash. Oh yeah, and happy Thanksgiving America! Hope you enjoy celebrating the sloppy seconds of Canadian Thanksgiving, making your holiday the equivalent of Chinese New Year happening every February. Sorry.

AC/DC - "JAILBREAK"

LIL B - "I LOVE YOU"

I am thankful for Based God. Really. I value friends, you feel me? I am thankful for rap music being weird. I am thankful for music being dope. I am thankful for people finding the capacity for kindness toward each other. I am thankful for jokes and for when those jokes get to be made at Big Sean's expense. I am thankful for the new Frank Ocean song. I am thankful for my loving family and my cool coworkers and for the fact that sometimes I have the luxury to sit down and do nothing and drink coffee and look out at trees and feel like maybe the world is an OK place.

When I was a little kid, my family used to go camping all over the East Coast. Mom, Dad, my little sister, the dogs, and I would cram into my dad's pickup truck and haul ass from our home base in the South Jersey Pine Barrens to upstate New York, down to West Virginia, and to most points in between. At night, we'd collect a bunch of kindling, then settle in by the open fire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Mom and Dad would drink beer and laugh at us kids, and invariably, Hank Jr. would be blaring through my dad's truck speakers. Now that I've grown up and moved to "The Big City", I don't see my family as often as I ought to. I do miss them, especially at times like this when I can't make it down for a holiday. I'm thankful for them, and to them for bringing me up under the pine trees and clear blue sky. I'm thankful for how my life has turned out, for my boyfriend, for my friends, for my dream job and badass colleagues, and even for our ridiculous butterball cat. I'm thankful for country music, for adventures and libraries and good bourbon. I'm thankful for black metal, black tea, and of course, Black Sabbath. Kim Kelly, Guest Editor
