Set Sail on a Cosmic Drift: Manatee Commune Remixes Kairos' "Cold Habits"

The bassist from Seattle-based girl group La Luz goes it alone and gets perfectly remixified.

We first became aware of Lena Simon thanks to the reverb-hazy girl group goodness of Seattle band La Luz, in which Simon plays bass and contributes vocals. Her solo project Kairos is a step removed—a kind of confidential pop which swirls together layered melodies, sumptuously slow synths, and delicate guitar jangles. The effect can, on occasion, recall Beach House. (Listen to everything available online here.)

Like all the best remixes Manatee Commune's take on "Cold Habits" is a total reimagining of the original. Grant Eadie, the Washington musician behind MC, keeps Simon's pipes as the focal point, but places them in a environment that's at once spacey and aquatic: beats skip and glitch in a glorious cosmic drift. Listen close and float on.
