S O H N - "The Wheel"

Musical meth to our frequently abused ears.

This song’s been up for a couple of weeks now and I've listened to it at least once every day. Well, maybe a little more than that. Okay, if I could have gotten ahold of the vinyl early, I would be tossing its pathetic, worn out little husk away about now. There are pitifully few tracks every year that are musical meth to my frequently abused ears and, judging by the insane amount of Soundcloud plays this has had, especially for a debut release by a totally new artist (S O H N) on a brand new label (Aesop), it’s having a similar effect on a lot of people.

"The Wheel" starts off unassumingly enough, then the vocal line properly begins and you think, "Dude’s got a lush voice." Just a little further along and it gets so dangerously absorbing, and from that moment on, the build is just stunning. For me, it’s all about two hooks: the one at 56 seconds in when that submerged, buzzing bass kicks in, and then when it hits 2:16, my eyes roll back in my head a little every single time.
