Feel the 21st Century Flower Power in Roses' "It's Over" Video

So much sun, so much summer, so many vibes.

In our modern times, with our imports from South America and our greenhouses, we're never really without flowers, but there's still something different about the flowers of summer, the wild kind, the kind you can run through a meadow and pick and make an impromptu bouquet out of. It's in a setting like this—not your dingy dining room with its sad vase of blooms wilting in the heat—that summer truly thrives.

So for a band with a flowery name and an upbeat, dreamy vibe like Roses, a field full of flowers bathed in warm sunlight is the perfect place to shoot a video. "It's Over" feels like a song you might play off your phone during a picnic or a song that your friend might start playing on guitar during that picnic, unprompted. The lyrics that bleed through aren't exactly the happiest things in the world, but those searing guitars and their slight patina of distortion feel like the familiar 90s indie rock throwback you need to relax hard in the sun.

Roses is a side project of Abe Vigoda guitarist Juan Velasquez, and the trio is rounded out by singer/keyboardist Marc Steinberg and bassist Victor Herrera. Their EP Dreamlover is out August 5, and you can pick it up, along with a dope T-shirt, here. If their dream pop vibes are your thing—which they should be because how could you not like this?—you can catch Roses on tour at the dates below. Check out "It's Over" above.
