London's Roman played his first show the other week at Club 333, where he claims to have said 1500 words within the span of 5 songs at a rate that came out to 1.6 words per second. I am no mathematician but that strikes me as a lot of words--too many for some. On "Hold My Hand," these words come together to form leery, mock-existential observations such as "Bowie knifes make careful hunting. To carry a knife for defence is a preamble to the stabbing" and "If you need some need energy, I've got a drink in a can. If you need for something else, we need to live off the land," recited in the tone of an alcoholic robot that has recently been laid off from work. Roman plays his next show May 12th at The Nest and I plan on seeing it, armed with--among other things--a timer, voice recorder, and calculator to put the accuracy of his claims to the test.
