PREMIERE: WALL - "Cuban Cigars"

Post-punk newbies march out of the gates with this defiantly cool debut.

Meet WALL. They're a NYC-based band as fresh to the scene as newly slicked paint. (Although this is not their first time at the rodeo: bassist Elizabeth Skadden used to play in Austin's Finally Punk and guitarist Vince McClelland was part of Keepsies.) The quartet have only performed at a handful of shows but if this debut single is anything to go by, their sets are packed with louche post-punk, all starkly angled guitar lines and minimalist beats with vocals that bark and march and pull you up by your boot straps (if you had any).

WALL's official statement on the song goes something like this: "'Cuban Cigars' was recorded in a concrete box in the dead of winter and inspired by the boxes in Manhattan where rich men go to smoke cigars and wash their money. Filtering The B-52's through minimal composition, WALL created this song based on patterns rather than melody.”
