PREMIERE: Summer Heart - "Beat of Your Heart"

"Covered up with snow it feels like summertime is somewhere else…" sings Swedish chap David Alexander, who makes music under the moniker Summer Heart. Don't worry buddy, the thaw is coming, and in fact, I've just had a look at your tour dates—you'll be basking in the Austin sun in no time.

Above is the premiere for "Beat of Your Heart," a twinkly, lo-fi song, which I thought was about being in love and bummed out, turns out I was altogether wrong.

"Due to lack of inspiration and creativity I had decided not to sleep before I had made a foundation for a great song," explains Alexander. "Soon insomnia had taken me into this haze that it does when I stay up for days. While in that haze I somehow managed to write 'Beat of Your Heart.' And the song pretty much tells the story of the situation it was written and about how the lack of creativity and inspiration really breaks me down and that getting it back is the best ecstasy."

As for the minimalist video, director Kyle Macfadzean took inspiration from photographer Viviane Sassen and especially her work Parasomnia. "The video is quite symbolic in a way, and to get the same hazy feeling as when the song was written Kyle also decided to use a lot of slow motion for many parts of it," he says. "To add a bit more of the sleepless feeling it was shot in a tiny photo studio in London in the middle of the night."

Whatever the case this makes me want to slip into a pair of short-shorts and ride my bike straight out of this city.
