If you've never indulged in the (guilty) pleasure of a good true crime binge watch, well, you're missing out. There's the drama, the mystery, the plot twists; the low-budget production, the hammy reenactments, the impersonal, vaguely dated fake names like "Sally" and "Nancy" that no real, live person who isn't your mother actually goes by. And it's just that campy, off-putting mystique that inspried Laura Peters, Investigation Discovery devotee and the force behind LA dream grunge project Psychic Love, to pen the track "Nancy," after noticing the channel's penchant for the pseudonym.But the song's idiosyncratic origins belie its darker subject matter and stark imagery, the tale of one woman trying to subvert another by any means. Peters purrs threats like, "Things could be better / But they can always be worse / Do you believe me now?" over psychedelic synth lines and creaking guitars. Its video, shot impromptu in slow motion on a Red camera, was improvised when Peters and director Paola Trulin found themselves with time to kill while shooting a jewelry ad for a friend, and the whole thing is serving us Nancy Sinatra meets David Bowie meets a restraining order.Psychic Love's debut LP is due out in early 2016.
