New Madrid is a four piece indie band from Athens, GA that plays an invigorating style of indie rock that's both strong in its intricacies as its catchiness. The band is set to release their new record, magnetkingmagnetqueen this coming April 29. Today, the band is premiering their newest track "Darker Parts," a song showing how well the band can engage a listener. It opens with a quick, subtle indie jam, shifting gears when the chorus arrives to a huge, swirling sensation of shoegaze like sensation. Singer Phil McGill brings forth a spirit and twang in his voice, adding on top another kind of musicality in the track.

Of the song, McGill says:

"It's about those things that you shouldn't talk about. You know. Maybe there isn’t an elevated sense of this living in the south, I can’t be totally sure. Maybe more a societal impulse in general. Trying to talk about those things in simple and plain language. What music can do. It plays with the idea of having all the answers at our fingertips, glowing out of our respective screens, but those answers only acquiesce a specific thirst. can be a distraction. What about when that all dies, our connection to answers outside ourselves. You can feel trapped.

It's also about things that we just decide we don't want to think about. Maybe it's something we once thirsted for but once it becomes familiar we don't want to think about it. We want to blot it out

The paranoia that sits in the back of your head.
When your imagination scares you.
Being in the shade or being in the dark and the beauty that elicits, the things it hides. sometimes we all want to be in the dark and other times light can’t come soon enough.
