PREMIERE: Muncie Girls - "Gas Mark 4"

Muncie Girls is Lande, Dean, and Luke - three punx from Exeter whose music is catchier than freshers flu and packed with more adrenaline than a storm chaser's weekend. They've been plugging away for years, with a trail of well crafted EPs and split releases dotted along their timeline since 2012, and now they're about to gift us with their debut album, From Caplan to Belsize, which comes out early next year. We've got the first taster from it in the form of a video for their new track "Gas Mark 4" premiering below. It's a certified belter, full of the kind of emotional swells and unexpected melodic twists that Muncie Girls have been busy perfecting, and now mark them out distinctly.

Both "Gas Mark 4" and From Caplan to Belsize are nods to Sylvia Plath and The Bell Jar respectively, and represent the themes of coping, healing, and shedding restraints found on the album. Lande says: “In the book, Caplan is the higher watch section of a mental asylum and Belsize is the less severe part. So there's a bit where she is moved and she's closer to having her freedom back. I guess for me, that title best summed up the lyrical theme of the album.”
