Attaque's Video for "Only You" Will Restore Your Faith in Love and Alter Your Feelings about Ants

The English electronicist hits the sweet spot in this insect-centric video.

People say (a.k.a. nerds who have spent time calculating stuff) that the average person spends 25 years sleeping, 10.3 years at work, and 48 days having sex. Apparently you also spend 92 days on the toilet, which might be the most depressing fact of all, particularly when compared with the between-the-sheets stats.

If I put on my tortoiseshell glasses and my white lab coat, I calculate I will probably spend at least 22 days of my existence on Earth looking for things. Where is my phone? Where is my lip balm? Where is my birth control? Has anyone seen my keys? Why can I only find contact lenses for my right eye? Why have my bike lights gone on a sabbatical without letting me know? Why did I purchase a handbag that's clearly a black hole that delivers all the essential stuff I need for life to another space-time continuum?

I am worst than most, but it is not unreasonable to say that as humans, life has turned into a never-ending quest. We're searching for happiness, for fulfillment, for another person to be our telepathic partner in crime. In the case of the big bottomed ant who stars in Attaque's video for "Only You," he's already found his life buddy—he's looking for Mila and he will stop at nothing and fear no one in his path as he searches for her. Foul-mouthed plastic soldiers, Subbuteo players, alien pop stars, this insect is asking everyone for clues. Even though he's limping and his big booty's dragging on the floor and he probably needs some water, he cannot be stopped. That's love. Remember when you stopped killing ants because Honey, I Shrunk the Kids humanized those little guys? Well, this has the same effect.

As for the music, Attaque is a chap from Essex, England, called Dominic Gentry, who used to drum in a teenage band who made music "somewhere between Sonic Youth, Pavement and Slint." Frankly, that sounds AWESOME! But anyway, that was ages ago and these days he makes electronic music and "Only You" is one of his more warmly ambient cuts. It swaddles you like a cashmere blanket. Think Caribou and Gold Panda vibes. It's pretty different from his Flow EP, a slim collection released a couple years back, which excelled in dirty bass and beats that pound as frantically as your little brother banging on the bathroom door because he's got the squits. Sorry, I dunno what's up with me today, but this is much better, and a reminder that you should always go after what you want.

Attaque's second album ON LY OU is out now via Dabbo Records.

Kim Taylor Bennett is trying to keep the faith. And her house keys. She's on Twitter.
