Ding, ding, DING!What really gets us about Zygadlo, isn't his absurdist humor—although that does help—it's the music, of course. Two albums of tough to classify, baroque, slightly bonkers electronica with a pippette's worth of pop, a dash of dubstep, some jazz weird-outs and a whole bunch of, *whisper it*, soul, Zygadlo's been teasing us over the past year with a new tune here and there, including the Yann Tiersen-esque "Dissident Song" and the Mad Decent-released, high-at-3-AM-on-a-Thursday vibe of "Slow Carz." His latest is a double A-side which marks a new twist in Zygadlo's steer, namely he's pitch shifting his vocals down and the results are sublime.Last week he posted the first tune, "Sympathies Scrapbook"—a skippy, surging, artfully stitched together synth-song—and premiering below is the flipside, "Black Bile." Again, his voice is dropped deeper, but brought high in the mix, cruising over ricocheting percussion and zinging keys, as he explores that age old adage: absence makes the heart grow fonder.
