Order From Chaos Open Their Vaults with the Must Have 'Frozen in Steel' Boxset

Stream two rare tracks and pray for mercy

Extreme metal godfathers - hell, extreme metal GODS - Order From Chaos have finally set a solid release date for their long-awaited box set, and it looks as though the Kansas City killers have truly outdone themselves on this one. Working in concert with Nuclear War Now! Productions, the three original members Chuck Keller, Pete Helmkamp, and Mike Miller have been slaving over this for years, collecting old flyers, rare photos, and every scrap of audio they'd ever recorded to find the absolute best representation of their years together. It will span the raw bestial genius of their debut Stillbirth Machine, the technical mastery of Dawnbringer, and the final colossal triumph that was An Ending in Fire, touching on each evolutionary mark in between. Order From Chaos was only truly active from 1987-1995, but that which they left behind was so epic, so original, so deadly, that their influence can be felt (and heard) lurking in the riffs and rasps of any current black/death metal band worth their leather. A 2010 reunion brought them to Europe, where they leveled Berlin during that year's Nuclear War Now Fest (I was there; IT WAS AWESOME) and since then, this box set has held their full attention. I can't wait to see it.

Due out November 25th via Nuclear War Now! Productions, the Frozen in Steel vinyl-discography collection will impart the band's entire release history onto twelve, count 'em twelve LPs. In addition to their three revered full-lengths, demos, and multiple EPs, the set will include a wealth of rare rehearsal demos, live recordings, and a mammoth 124-page booklet featuring an in-depth look at one of the most important and criminally underrated bands in heavy metal history. There's no word on how much this baby's going to cost yet, but it's not going to come cheap (though if you spring for the diehard edition, you'll get even more rare material to sink your stained teeth into).

For now, take a listen to "The Edge of Forever" (the vicious opening track on landmark album Stillbirth Machine" and "There Lies Your Lord! Father of Victories!" off the band's imperious swansong 'An Ending in Fire.'
