Northumbria's Gentle Drones Take You Back to the Time of the Vikings' Discovery of Canada

Canadian duo Northumbria (Jim Field and Dorian Williamson) have a history of creating beautiful music—more specifically, beautiful guitar-based ambient drone music. Their latest work is no exception; Helluland (out March 31 via Cryo Chamber) is a minimalist concept album that sounds more like a film soundtrack, all gentle washes of fuzz and floating drones.

Helluland translates to "the land of flat stone" in Old Norse, and the album itself was inspired the Norse discovery of Canada's Baffin island many, many years ago. It's easy to get lost in the music, lulled by the waves and thoughts of the past.
